French schools break from Saturday 17 October to Monday 2 November, and the UK half-term lands in the same fortnight. Two weeks is enough to get the grandparents, the cousins and the children's friends under one roof, provided the house delivers when it is 9 °C outside.

Before you sign for a 14-sleeper villa, put ten questions to the owner. The Holisty villa's answers, in Villerville, sit under each one. Compare.

1. How is the house heated, and who controls the thermostat?

In late October on the Côte Fleurie the thermometer sits between 8 and 14 °C and night falls before dinner. Many holiday homes have one thermostat for everyone, sometimes electric heating billed on top from the meter.

At the Holisty villa, the whole house has reversible air conditioning, set room by room: each suite picks its own temperature. The ground floor also has underfloor heating. It is all included in the price. In the evening, the fireplace in the main living room takes over, facing the sofas and the bookshelves.

2. Is the pool indoors, and how warm is it in October?

"Heated pool" can mean 24 °C under a cover, unusable in the autumn. Ask where the pool is, what water temperature is guaranteed and whether the air in the room is heated too.

Here, the pool sits inside an enclosed orangery. The water is at 30 °C all year round, the air at 25 °C with 45% humidity. The pool measures 11 m by 5 m. You can swim on a rainy 31 October with the sea in the glass doors.

3. How many people fit in the sauna?

A two-seat sauna for fourteen people means a queue at the door. Ask about capacity, and whether there is a room for massages.

The villa's sauna seats six. Next to it, a massage room with a treatment table: a therapist comes by appointment, for a candle massage, hot stones or a four-hand massage. The gym is equipped by Technogym: treadmill, bike, rowing machine, dumbbells and yoga mats. All on the garden level, with direct access to the pool.

4. Can the children run around unsupervised?

With children aged 2 to 12, three things matter: a pool that is secured outside swimming times, enclosed grounds and gates on the stairs. Check for smoke detectors, a cot and a high chair as well.

The pool is closed by a submerged safety cover. The park, 10,872 m², is fully fenced. Safety gates, smoke detectors, cot, high chair and extra beds are on site. On the first floor, a playroom; in the park, a cabin, swings and a slide. A babysitter can be booked through the concierge.

5. How many bathrooms for how many bedrooms?

"Sleeps 14" sometimes means seven bedrooms, three of them in the attic, two bathrooms and plasterboard walls. Ask for the exact number of bathrooms, the size of the beds and what has been done about sound insulation.

At Holisty, six suites, each with its own bathroom, toilet and desk. King-size beds, bedding made in France from organic materials, bathrobes, slippers and heated towel rails. The partitions between the suites have been reinforced and the doors are solid: early risers and night owls coexist. Suite 6, on the garden level, adds two extra beds and a private terrace, ideal for teenagers.

6. Does everyone fit around the table?

Fourteen chairs, not twelve plus two stools. Ask what is arranged to spare you the first-night supermarket run.

The oak kitchen is built around a central island, with a Jura coffee machine. The dining table opens onto the terrace; outside, a second table for fourteen and a Weber barbecue. The concierge delivers groceries before you arrive, brings a breakfast of Normandy produce every morning if you wish, and books a chef for dinners. The village grocery is a nine-minute walk, the certified-organic Ferme du Château twelve.

7. Does the Wi-Fi reach every bedroom?

Several adults will work remotely for a few days during the fortnight. A router at the end of a corridor does not cover 450 m² on three levels.

High-speed Wi-Fi is relayed by eight repeaters, out to the pool and the terraces. Every suite has a desk. Two Samsung The Frame televisions turn into paintings when switched off.

8. Who answers if something breaks on a Sunday?

An agency hands over the keys. A concierge stays reachable during the stay. Ask who picks up, in which language, and which services can be booked on site.

One contact from your first enquiry, by phone, e-mail or WhatsApp, in English and French. Cleaning, groceries, breakfasts, chef, massages, babysitter, transfers from Trouville-Deauville station or from Paris. An electric-vehicle charging point waits in the park. You arrive with the concierge or on your own, using a connected lock whose code reaches you the day before.

9. What do you do outside when it rains?

Autumn half-term in Normandy means the beach at low tide in wellies, sandcastles with nobody around, the coastal path to Trouville, the old harbour at Honfleur, the Deauville boardwalk, the cider routes of the Pays d'Auge in apple season, and pumpkins in the village on 31 October. From the villa: Villerville beach is a ten-minute walk, Deauville twelve minutes by car, Honfleur fifteen. From the UK, take the ferry to Caen or Le Havre, or the Eurostar to Paris and the train to Trouville-Deauville.

10. What does it cost, and what is included?

Read the conditions before you fall for a house: minimum stay, arrival time, security deposit, and what the price covers.

From 17 October to 1 November 2026 the villa is in mid season: €1,900 per night for the whole house, three nights minimum. Between fourteen of you, that is €136 per person per night, with the pool, sauna, gym, linen, beds made and end-of-stay cleaning included. Check-in from 5 pm, check-out at 10 am. Full rates are on the Rates page; for your dates, request a proposal and you will have it within 24 hours.
